I have been working with horses for more than 18 years and have been fortunate enough to have owned horses for 32 years. I have competed for most of this time, starting at my local gymkhana at 9. After studying Animal Science at Edinburgh University, I ran my own small riding school and livery yard, then worked at Oatridge College for 8 years teaching Riding, Stable Management, Horse Care and Equine Science. I gained the BHSAI in 1992, BHSII in 1993 and BHS Instructors qualification in 1999. Since having my third child I have been a freelance riding instructor, covering Edinburgh, Midlothian, East Lothian, West Lothian and the Borders, and I assess at BHS exams all over Scotland, the North of England and Ireland. Prior to having a family, I enjoyed eventing to Open Intermediate level, BSJA showjumping to B&C level and Young Riders, and affiliated dressage at Elementary level over the years. Currently I am competing in Working Hunter classes up to county level, as well as other showing classes, and when time allows I still like to showjump, do dressage and cross country. My varied experience in most disciplines helps me to give confidence to my clients, and think of ways to approach problem solving, as I have learned from the many horses that I have known over the years, and the trainers that have helped me with my horses. Patience is one of the most important things that I have learned from horses, and I try to be patient with my clients too! I see my work as my chance to help clients get the most from their horse, to help them set themselves goals, and enjoy spending time with their horse. Depending on your level of riding I can give you structured instruction and training, or I can coach you to support you in numerous ways to achieve competitive and non-competitive objectives. If you lack experience I can ride your horse to help correct problems, then help you to be able to maintain a good way of going. I am currently working for my UKCC level 3 coaching certificate, which is a very useful bolt-on to my British Horse Society qualifications. I also hold first aid and child protection qualifications. Please give me a call or send me an email for a no obligation chat. If I don't think I can help you I will point you in the right direction.
